Incident Surrounding Death
Deputy Blanco Aquino was investigating a report of gunshots in the small town of Bassett. He had pulled his squad car onto the shoulder of the road and was standing at the front of the vehicle, directing his attention to an area where the gunshots had reportedly come from, when a pickup truck operated by an intoxicated driver crossed completely over the centerline and struck the rear of Aquino's squad car propelling it into the deputy. The pickup then struck Deputy Aquino and dragged him for a distance of 250 feet. The driver did not stop and the truck was subsequently found in a cornfield near the driver's home.
