Incident Surrounding Death
Agent Balchunas was on duty, in plain clothes, at 12:30 a.m. when he stopped at a gas station for a cup of coffee. As Balchunas walked back to his car two subjects approached and announced a robbery. During the robbery the suspects found Agent Balchunas' gun and discovered he was an officer. The subjects then shot Balchunas in the abdomen. Agent Balchunas was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds seven days later.
